Description

To Present BLACK Joy is the outmost privilege, and we need to celebrate BLACKness now MORE THAN EVER. Black History is every month because the most marginalized people are the ones who have always known the way forward.

Reparations are due. Liberation is due. Celebration is due. Joy is due.

“Black Lives Matter is a statement, a mission, an action, a love note and a full sentence” Taylor McNallie

We will repeat this love note over and over again until it is felt everywhere.

Black Lives Matter. Black Joy Matters. Do NOT miss this show.

We would like to acknowledge the origins of drag are founded and rooted in Black History and culture.  William Dorsey Swann, the first drag queen also black man born enslaved.  In the 1880s, Swann started hosting drag balls in Washington for other men who were formerly enslaved. Of course more than mentionable is one of the first documented Drag Kings, Florence Hines circa 1890 with The Creole Show.

We must never lose gratitude for those who paved the way and led drag to where it is now. Don’t stop centring Black art. Please consider donating directly to local mutual aide projects that uplift the most marginalized. Learn more at https://www.mutualaidcanada.ca/

This event is being hosted on stolen lands. Being settlers on this sacred space gives us the opportunity to entertain but not without first making a life long commitment to acknowledge the original keepers of this land and the pain that continues to be perpetrated by broken systems and promises.

In the spirit of our commitment to reconciliation, it's critical that we start by speaking the names of the nations who's homes we are taking up. We reside on the home of the Traditional Territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy which is comprised of the the Piikani, the Siksika, Kainai as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda, Tsuut’ina nations and Métis Region 3. We honour Moh’kinsstis and all nations who are the first caretakers of this revered land. To become more involved in liberation please check out the Reconciliation Action Group.
