Chinook Musical Society presents 9 "Saturday Night Special" shows every year, featuring a range of genres from folk and country, to blues, Celtic and folk rock. While we do present acts from all over North America, and some international, we are especially proud to showcase our Canadian and local Alberta artists.
Each evening starts with one set from our opening artist, followed by two sets from our headliner.

Saturday, October 4, 2025 we are pleased to welcome Guy Davis back to our Saturday Night Special stage along with Calgary’s favourite bluesman - Tim Williams!

Guy Davis is a two-time, back-to-back Grammy nominee for Best Traditional Blues, a musician, Actor, Author, and Songwriter. His storytelling is sometimes painful, deep, and real, an earthy contrast to modern-day commercial music, meant to create thought, underlined by gentle tones from his guitar or banjo fingerpicking. When asked about his experience as a performer, Guy has replied, “There is no tale so tall that I cannot tell it, nor song so sweet that I cannot sing it.”

His performances feature a mix of originals and cover songs from Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, to Pete Seeger, and Bob Dylan, and others as he sings, plays six and twelve string guitars, the five-string banjo, harmonica, and didgeridoo.

Opening our bluesy evening will be award-winning Canadian blues and roots artist Tim Williams! Tim began his career in the coffee houses of Southern California as a teenager. After moving to Canada in the 1970’s, he discovered both a lively folk music community and a flourishing studio scene. Doubling on dobro, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica he was soon a busy session musician with a full schedule of coffee house and college concert dates.

After a hiatus, his return to full-time performing began with his appearance at the 1988 Edmonton Folk Festival, where he wowed every audience he played to, won praise from folks like Jimmy Dale Gilmore, and was re-united with old pal Tom Russell. Since then it’s been a steady stream of tours, recordings, and interesting side projects. A producer/performer on four JUNO-nominated projects (Triple Threat, Little Miss Higgins, Ray Bonneville, and Williams, Wayne & Isaak) and perhaps forty others, plus over a dozen solo and side group CDs, Tim remains an active session musician and occasional producer, and a treasured part of the Calgary music scene.  https://youtu.be/x2h7_WkES34?si=wb6dTFb-C9k_I2J8
