Description

Ghosts in the Machine: A Celebration of David Tudor’s 100th Year

Sunday, March 8 | 3 p.m.
Convocation Hall
Old Arts Building and Convocation Hall, University of Alberta, North Campus

Marking the centenary of David Tudor’s birth, this concert celebrates one of the most radical and influential figures of postwar experimental music through a multifaceted evening of sound, dance, performance, and reflection. Featuring a realization of Rainforest IV, a program of piano works written for Tudor and performed by Roger Admiral, a contextual talk by Tudor scholar You Nakai, and a dance performance choreographed by Jen Mesch set to Tudor’s Toneburst, the program illuminates Tudor’s enduring legacy as a composer, pianist, and architect of handmade electronic noise instruments—revealing a body of work that continues to challenge how we listen, perform, and inhabit sound.

FEATURING:

  • Roger Admiral | Piano Performance

  • Stephan Moore | Sound Performance

  • Members of XiMe and ART 354/454 Sound Art Students | Rainforest IV Performance

  • You Nakai | Talk
