gently divine, violently disorientating (GDVD) by Alexandra Caprara

New Works is excited to present, in partnership with Alexandra Caprara, the full-length world premiere of gently divine, violently disorientating (GDVD), on March 24 & 25, 2027 at The Roundhouse Community Centre. This innovation interdisciplinary performance blends the collaboration between technology and the performers as partners. From the usage of live camera work to graphic projections, Alexandra invites audiences to engage in the act of redefining the body, challenge your perceptions, and celebrate the process of stepping into your own authenticity.

About the work

Inspired by Legacy Russel’s “Glitch Feminism,” gently divine, violently disorientating (GDVD) depicts the ways queer individuals can manifest their own ideas of becoming by abstracting the ways they are perceived through technology. Using live camera work, projection, and a digital video “loop-pedal”, the performers create compositions using their bodies in real time, in an attempt to introduce new versions of themselves that exist in a digital reality. In doing so, technology acts as a fellow dance partner on stage, allowing them to reveal new freedoms of self expression, and expand our definition of what a “body” can be. Blending forms of dance, theatre, and film, GDVD displays this relationship to technology as a tool to subvert and embrace what it means to be perceived.
