Description

An Epic Adventure on the Great Divide Trail...

Join us for an evening of stories, photos, videos and hiking advice with the first person to yoyo* thruhike the Great Divide Trail. In 2017 Dan Durston and his wife, T, hiked over 2200km to complete the first yo-yo of the GDT (Waterton to Kakwa and back). At this event, Dan will be telling the story of that trip including tales of the never ending spring snowpack, close calls with wildlife, the remarkable wildflowers of the high Rockies alpine, and how their trip was nearly cut short by one of the most damaging fire seasons in recent history.

If you’ve volunteered on the GDT, are considering hiking even a small section of it, or are even just a little bit curious about what the Great Divide Trail is like, this event is for you! Come hear firsthand from a thru hiking pioneer on what it takes to hike the Great Divide Trail. Dan will also offer planning and hiking tips and answer questions that you may have.

Everyone is welcome! There will also be time for socializing with other GDT backcountry enthusiasts!

*Yo-yo: To return to the beginning along the same route as a thru-hike.

Profits from the event will be invested in the completion and environmental protection of the Great Divide Trail.

Cost (including 1st drink): $5 GDTA Members, $15 Regular.  Click here to learn more about becoming a GDTA member.

The doors will open at 6:30 pm and the talk will start at 7:00 pm.

Organizer Description:
The Great Divide Trail traverses the continental divide between Alberta and British Columbia, wandering through the vast wilderness of the Canadian Rocky Mountains for more than 1100 kilometres. Whether you are planning to hike for a day, a week, or a month, the GDT is one of the most spectacular and challenging long‐distance trails on the planet. The GDT was featured in Explore Magazine's article on 35 of Canada's Longest Hiking Trails.

The Great Divide Trail Association is a not for profit organization dedicated to maintaining, protecting and promoting the Great Divide Trail and with your support, we can preserve the GDT and its wilderness experience for generations to come!
