Description
Get ready for an unforgettable night of world-class jazz in the heart of the Columbia Valley.
Robi Botos is one of the most celebrated jazz pianists of his generation. Born of Romani descent in Hungary, he taught himself drums as a young child, found the piano at age seven, and never looked back. After immigrating to Canada, he won the prestigious solo piano competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2004 — a victory that led to a friendship with the legendary Oscar Peterson, who made Robi one of his final mentees.
Since then, Robi has performed and recorded with an astonishing list of greats, including Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, Branford Marsalis, Christian McBride, Joey DeFrancesco, and Steve Gadd, and has been the pianist of choice for Canadian jazz icon Molly Johnson for nearly two decades. His albums Movin’ Forward (2016) and Old Soul (2019) each earned the JUNO Award for Jazz Album of the Year: Solo.
Says jazz great Joey DeFrancesco: “Robi is one of the most swingin’, soulful, funky, world class players I’ve ever heard, and he has a technique like you can’t believe.”
For one night only, Robi brings that artistry to the beautiful CVArts Steinway grand piano at Christ Church Trinity — an intimate 200-seat evening of swing, soul, and stunning improvisation, from the tradition of Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans to Robi’s own soulful original voice.
A concert with a cause: all net proceeds support a newly created fund at the Columbia Valley Community Foundation, dedicated to maintaining the CVArts Steinway piano and seeding future piano-based music programming in the Columbia Valley. Additional donations are gratefully accepted.
Doors open at 6:30 pm; the concert begins at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $60 and strictly limited to 200 — advance purchase is recommended. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door.
With grateful thanks to our sponsors: Harvey and Sherry Doerr, Mountain Home Productions, and Columbia Valley Arts for the use of the Steinway piano.
