New Works Artist in Residence, Alexa Solveig Mardon invites audiences into the theatre for a behind the scenes look at preparations for the upcoming premiere performance of good loser. Alexa’s newest work builds connections across cultures and communities, weaving together live music, movement, lighting, physical art objects, and more. Audiences are invited into the theatre to experience the work as it develops. This free event will include a work-in progress performance and open dialogue with Alexa and the collaborating artists.
Alexa Solveig Mardon is a queer dancer, performance maker and teacher co-creating and seeking spaces for imperfect ritual, queer fantastical play, and collaboration across difference. Alexa holds a B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing from Simon Fraser University, and an MA in Choreography from DAS Choreography, University of the Arts Amsterdam. They are a practicing biodynamic craniosacral therapist and teacher through Body Intelligence School. Alexa’s collaborative and solo work has been presented by Western Front (Vancouver) The Dance Centre (Vancouver), Summerworks Festival (Toronto), Institute for Contemporary Art (London), Richmond Art Gallery, VIVO Media Arts Centre, Ehkä Kutomo (FinlandI) Hold On/Let Go (Vancouver), and OFFTA (Montreal). With Rianne Svelnis, they co-steward the project “Movement Classes for Support Workers” since 2018. With Erika Mitsuhashi, they co-direct Mardon + Mitsuhashi, a ten-year artistic collaboration grown from deep friendship.
