Welcome to the Cabaret Laboratory, where we explore and expand our understanding and presentation of performance through a cabaret lens.

This spring, we have a selection of great workshops and mini-progressives! 

Please note the dates & times of your class! Showpass will give a generic start time and date based on the overall event - not the ticket purchased.

Sensual Chair Choreography with Bea Lissima

Wednesday April 15
5:30-7:00PM
CommunityWise Dance Studio

Join Bea Lissima in this beginner chair choreography class. Using beginner movements, this class will focus on creating a sensual chair routine. Participants will learn chair choreography fundamentals to bring into their own personal burlesque movement vocabulary. 

Open to all genders, bodies, an identities. No prior burlesque or dance experience is required.There will be floorwork elements in this class, but modifications for accessible movement will be provided.

Doll's Burlesque (Trans Femmes Only) with Karla Marx

Wednesdays April 15 - 29 from 7:00-8:30PM
Mini-Progressive at CommunityWise Dance Studio

Join Karla Marx for a mini-progressive burlesque class for trans femmes. This class is open to all trans femmes who would like to try burlesque--no prior experience needed! This class will focus on empowerment, confidence, and aesthetics. Participants are invited to perform at the Spring Student Showcase at the end of the semester.

 

Boa Choreography with Bitch Sassidy

Wednesday April 29 from 5:30-7:00PM

Feel yourself in this fun feel good choreo class which focuses on using a boa to our best burlesque advantage. How to tease, titallate, dazzle, and be daring with boas of all sizes led by Bitch Sassidy.
Limited number of boas available to borrow for this class. If you have one, please bring it!

Classic Long Form Burlesque with Bitch Sassidy

Wednesday May 13 & 20 from 7:00-8:30PM
Mini-Progressive, CommunityWise Dance Studio

This mini-progressive led by Bitch Sassidy focuses on transforming stage performance to roving performance. Incorporating audience play, costuming, strips, and strategic music choice to turn a 3 minute act into a 10 minute act. Open to all genders, bodies, and identities. No prior burlesque or dance experience is required.

Shimmy and Shake with Ivy La Fleur

Wednesday May 20 from 5:30-7:00PM
CommunityWise Dance Studio

Tassel twirling? Assels? What's the difference? This class is all about those little hats we use in burlesque to shake and shimmy across the stage. Led by Ivy La Fleur, this workshop will break down the history and basics of tassel twirling for all bodies. No previous experience required. Price of the workshop includes a basic pair of tassels, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Open to all genders, bodies, and identities. No prior burlesque or dance experience is required.

Act Review with Bitch Sassidy

Wednesday May 27 from 7:00-8:30PM
CommunityWise Dance Studio

Ready to level up your act? Everyone benefits from an outside eye! Join this class to present your burlesque act, and dig into the gooey details to take it from good to EYE POPPING as we work through moment by moment. Soak in a new perspective and considerations as instructor Bitch Sassidy works alongside each student. Small class size, limited signups available!

Open to all genders, bodies, and identities. Prior burlesque experience is required. 6 spots available.

Accessibility Considerations: CommunityWise is now located in the community of Forest Lawn/International Avenue. It is accessible by car or transit, and has building accessibility such as automatic doors and an elevator.
