Teaser clip for Flamenco por Cante
The title of this show, Celedonio’s final SoundBar performance of the series, is Flamenco por Cante, which means Flamenco for the voice of the singer. The focus will be on guitar accompaniment of the voice without dance; however, Maria Regnier, an amazing flamenco dancer, will pepper the evening with some of her artistry. The guitarists for the evening will be Tosh Hayashi, Jorge Villena, and Ricardo Sanchez.
Celedonio Garrido is a wonderful Andalusian flamenco singer born and steeped in the flamenco neighbourhoods of Huelva, Spain. He has many singers and guitarists in his family and grew up at family gatherings where, after dinner, the attention would shift to singing the night away. He has a deep knowledge and execution of the traditional flamenco song forms and a wonderfully warm presence and delivery on stage. Performing regularly all over Europe, he has taken flight to join us here in both Alberta and Saskatchewan to create these very special spring flamenco shows.
Tosh Hayashi has become a mainstay guitarist in the Calgary flamenco scene since his arrival in 2011, performing most often with singer/dancer Silvia Temis, and dancers Maria Regnier and Francesca Canalizo. He has studied extensively in Spain as well as on Canada's west coast and is an accomplished accompanist for both traditional song and dance.
Jorge Villena, originally from Murcia, Spain, now lives in Calgary and is the guitarist and co-founder of Notas de 4, a very flamenco influenced musical group with other co-founder, singer Silvia Temis and an assortment of Calgary's finest musicians.
Ricardo Sanchez, originally from Mexico, now lives and plays in multiple flamenco companies in New York City. He is a virtuoso of a flamenco guitarist, accomplished in traditional as well as modern song and dance forms.
Maria Regnier, a Saskatoon native, is an amazing dancer. Her sharp, fast, precise feet and artful use of her body express the beauty and depth of traditional flamenco as well as make her a much sought after dancer for modern flamencoesque stylings.
