Family Orientation is a program offered by New Student Orientation that focuses on the transition of new students to the UofA community and their families. It aims to provide students and families with tips and tricks for supporting one another throughout the shift to post-secondary education. 

This year, Family Orientation program will be taking place from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday, July 25th at the University of Alberta North Campus. Additionally, there will be optional Campus and Lister Residence tours from 3:30PM - 4:30PM.

 

Family Orientation consists of two different programming streams: one for incoming students, and one for their family members. A variety of unique opportunities and sessions are scheduled for both tracks! 

Incoming Students will explore an introduction to University life with experiences such as:

• Presentations about academics, student life, adulting, and more!
• A student panel to ask burning questions to current U of A students from across disciplines
• A chance to practice riding Edmonton public transit on their lunch excursion to visit “Taste of Edmonton”, one of Edmonton’s largest food festivals located downtown! Students will have 20 tickets to explore the festival and get to make connections with other new incoming students
• Printed handbook with additional content and resources
• Optional tours of campus and Lister Residence!

Family members and supporters will be offered an experience tailored to their role in supporting their incoming student through:

• Presentations about academics, finances, supporting your student, residence, wellness, safety, and more!
• A student panel to ask burning questions to current U of A students from across disciplines
• Services Fair over the lunch hour showcasing various campus services
• Printed handbook with additional content and resources
• Optional tours of campus and Lister Residence!

 

 Tickets are required for both students and any guests at the event. A light breakfast and a lunch will be provided.
