Description
Be warmed by the flames of music, dance, and poetry on a winter’s night through the performance traditions of Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
Ensemble Topaz showcases the traditional and contemporary arts of Central Asia along with a unique blend of Western and Eastern aesthetics. Their core ensemble includes dancers and musicians of Indian, Afghan, Iranian, Polish, Jewish and Canadian heritage who will be joined by special guests from Kazakhstan and China for this performance.
Winter’s Flame celebrates the projects and new creations of Ensemble Topaz featuring music and poetry in collaboration with Chinese multi-instrumentalist Li Huiming, Kazakh songs with vocalist Ekaterina, and original arrangements of Afghan and Iranian songs, recorded with the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
