English National Ballet: Akram Khan’s Giselle at London Coliseum

Akram Khan’s Giselle returns to London for its 10th anniversary in a stunning production that has redefined modern ballet.

Performed by the English National Ballet, this landmark work tells the tragic story of Giselle through the lens of contemporary class struggle.

Here, Giselle belongs to the Outcasts, a community of migrant workers exploited by the wealthy Landlords. When her lover Albrecht is revealed to be one of them, betrayal and heartbreak set her on a path to the spirit world. She joins the Wilis—vengeful ghosts of women who died with broken hearts—and must decide whether her love can save Albrecht from their wrath.

Critically acclaimed across the world, Akram Khan’s Giselle is a hauntingly beautiful fusion of classical ballet and Indian dance, set against Tim Yip’s towering industrial design and accompanied by Vincenzo Lamagna’s powerful score, performed live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic.
