Description
This Earth Day, celebrate with a feature documentary from local filmmakers Velcrow Ripper and Nova Ami.
Amidst an undeniable climate emergency, women are on the front lines.
As first responders and change makers, they provide hope in the face
of crisis. Zeroing on recent catastrophes in British Columbia and the
Northwest Territories, this survival guide and a call to collective
imagination is seen through the eyes of those who’ve survived the
wildfires, extreme heat and floods surrounding them. Their
perspectives reflect a survival instinct triggered by harrowing
encounters with nature’s power.
With sensitivity and clear sense of purpose, award winning directors Nova Ami and Velcrow Ripper add to
their impressive body of documentary films by interweaving poet Meghan
Fandrich’s reflective prose from her collection Burning Sage – Poems
from the Lytton Fire with powerful examples of community resilience,
healing through expressive arts, and youth preparing for future
challenges. As the land we depend upon continues to radically react to
our impact, the evidence is clear: we must take a new path forward to
ensure our shared survival.
