Description

Santa Fe College’s annual dance showcase, “Elements of Style,” returns to the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall (3000 Northwest 83 Street, Gainesville) on April 4 and 5, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. Featuring 40 SF dance students performing in eight distinct styles, the production highlights the diversity and artistry of the college’s dance program.

Audiences can expect a program ranging from classical ballet to contemporary fusion. The student performances include:

  • Classical Ballet: Variations from “Swan Lake,” choreographed by Adjunct Assistant Professor Jessie Dominguez
  • Flamenco: “Fire’s Dance,” a Spanish folklore-inspired piece by Visiting Artist Irene Rodriguez
  • Contemporary: An exploration of isolation by Assistant Professor Melissa Brenner
  • Musical Theatre: A selection from “The Wild Party,” choreographed by Adjunct Assistant Professor Calypso Haddad
  • Jazz Funk: A high-energy fusion performed by the SF Dance Team
  • West African Dance & Drumming: Led by Adjunct Associate Professor Mohamed DaCosta
  • Post-Modern Dance: “Strict Love” by Visiting Artist Doug Varone and Dancers
  • Student Work: A unique fusion of tap, hip-hop and contemporary by student choreographer Garrett Perry

“We believe in providing a well-rounded education that helps students achieve their goals while broadening their understanding of dance,” SF Assistant Professor of Dance Melissa Brenner said. “Through collaboration with professional faculty, visiting artists, and their peers, students are immersed in a supportive, community-driven environment. During rehearsals, they explore the histories and cultures that have shaped various dance forms, gaining an appreciation for being part of the larger dance lineage. The skills developed in our program—confidence, discipline, critical thinking, and the ability to contribute responsibly to a community—are valuable in any career.”

Beyond their performances, students also work closely with professional technical theater staff and SF technical theater students, gaining hands-on experience in theatrical production.

Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for seniors, students, and military service members, and free for SF students, faculty, and staff with ID. They are available at the Fine Arts Hall Box Office at 352-395-4181 or online at Showpass.

This event is presented by the Santa Fe College Fine Arts and Entertainment Technology Department.
