Description

Set in 1950s Trinidad, Driftwood is the debut play by Martina Laird, directed by Justin Audibert (Artistic Director of Chichester Festival Theatre).

This compelling new drama unfolds in the fading grandeur of an exclusive gentlemen’s club, where tensions of class, race, and independence collide.

At ALMA, guests come to unwind under the strict eye of Pearl and the English owner, Mansion — but beneath the charm and cocktails, ambition simmers. When the captivating Ruby crosses paths with the reckless newcomer Diamond, a dangerous bargain with a corrupt US Marine sets off a chain of betrayal, survival, and self-discovery.

Laird’s rich, poetic language captures the rhythm and fire of a nation on the brink of change — and the women determined to claim their power within it.
