Group A (Grades 1 – 3)

Wetlands Detectives

In this program students become wetland “detectives” as they explore the pond and surrounding area of our wetland. The classroom portion called “Create a Critter” gives students an opportunity to thoughtfully design a creature with adaptive features that lives in or around a wetland.

Group B (Grades 4 – 6)

Wetlands and the West

Discover the history and significance wetland ecosystems played in the settlement of the West. Students will investigate invertebrate life by pond-dipping in our wetlands. In the classroom, students will learn how the Blackfoot and early settlers interacted with water, and how water usage has changed over time in both groups.

Group C (Grades 7+)

Students will learn the interconnected aspects of our environment in a social and scientific context. This program begins by exploring the plant life that is abundant around the wetland. Students will dip for invertebrates and begin water quality testing of the pond. Samples collected will be further examined back in the classroom.

COVID-19 Precautions

As per current government guidelines, our Discovery Day will adhere to the following:

  • Staff members, parents or guardians and children must not attend the programs if they are sick, even if symptoms resemble a mild cold.
  • Parents and guardians will be required to check the temperatures of their children prior to attending the programs.
  • Programs will be modified to incorporate physical distancing measures.
  • Increased cleaning and disinfecting of programming spaces and materials will be done.
