The re-launch of Discoveries continues Wednesday July 17 with Jeremy Voltz, Maddy Ringo and Chris & Nicole.
Jeremy Voltz is an indie-soul artist with a voice described as “like butter” and a style reminiscent of Jeff Buckley and Hozier. Known for powerful, hook-heavy melodies and emotionally resonant lyrics, he writes “battle songs for the empathetic”—music that hits hard yet stays vulnerable. His 2023 album Running Away, created with Oliver Charles, blends soulful songwriting with cinematic pop production, while his debut Weekender won Album of the Year at the Ontario Folk Music Awards. A signed writer with Hyvetown Music Publishing, Voltz’s songs have been featured by Hallmark, TLC, the NFL, and CBC Radio, with his acoustic anthem “One Day at a Time” inspiring millions of streams and a children’s book.
Maddy Ringo is a rising folk artist whose haunting mezzo vocals and lyrical storytelling blend timeless American folk with a modern edge. A former opera singer turned busker, she now performs around Southeast Michigan while studying classical voice at the University of Michigan. Her upcoming album People of the Earth and Sea explores human emotion in a post-industrial world, with a sound that echoes Gillian Welch and Joni Mitchell. With her multi-instrumental talent, sharp wit, and disarming stage presence, Ringo is quickly making a name for herself on both sides of the border.
Chris & Nicole are an indie folk pop duo from Toronto blending intimate storytelling with soaring, anthemic melodies. Drawing inspiration from artists like The Civil Wars, Glen Hansard, and The Milk Carton Kids, their music weaves together Americana warmth, folk pop hooks, and indie rock energy. Their debut EP There's Romance in Goodbye (2019) introduced their signature harmonies and emotional depth, and they’re currently crafting their first full-length album. Whether stripped down or with a full band, their songs invite listeners into something both personal and universal -- raw emotion, honest connection, and the timeless pull of a melody you can’t help but sing along to.
296 Broadview is not yet a fully wheelchair accessible venue, with stairs between all levels. Our goal is to fix that, and we need your support to do so - please consider making a donation towards our goals to make HRL the best listening room in Toronto!
