Description

In our opening concert of 2026/27, Turning Point Ensemble rediscovers overlooked gems from the past, and discovers new composers and repertoire for the present day and future. The striking combination of ‘rare’ repertoire includes two works composed for TPE – Remove the Springs by Moldovan composer Snejani Pislari, and Psychography by Vancouver composer Taylor Brook. We uncover the extraordinary music of Icelandic composer Jón Leifs, now heralded as “the most important and original composer of Icelandic music in the twentieth century”, and are proud to bring back Remember your Power, a work composed for TPE pianist Jane Hayes in 1998 by one of the finest Canadian composers of his generation, John Burke (died 2020). Finally, we bring forward two major compositional voices of the present – the mesmerizing layered sound world of Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir in her Aequiliibria  of 2014, and the fascinating Ninaivanjali by Quebec composer Gabriel Dharmoo inspired by the melodies, rhythms, and drones of South Indian Carnatic music.
