Description
The Escapes' music, a blend of jazz, soul, funk, and pop takes inspiration from bands such as hiatus kaiyote, dirty loops, john mayer, vulpeck, paramore, raelee nikole and stevie wonder. Merged through a happy accident, the escapes were coincidentally connected in september of 2015 and haven't stopped writing and performing since. The five members of the band, max and rhett cunningham, isobel ralph, keely rammage-scott and jack wells all make the escapes an exciting and intriguing musical project with a diverse sound. In january of 2018 the band was signed to a development contract with 604 records of vancouver and have worked closely with producers louise burns and dave genn of 54-40.
Quinn Pickering (New Westminister) // quinnpickering.org
Quinn’s singer-songwriter styling lends itself to capturing tone and soul within his music in a way that becomes thoughtful and almost nostalgic, while also retaining the bite and drive of rock and the easy and palatable appeal of pop music. Some of his personal influences include contemporary artists such as John Mayer, and Ed Sheeran as well as classics such as Fleetwood Mac, Ryan Adams, and Tom Petty, and this eclectic range of influence shows in his work. Through his use of lyricism and expert blending of melody and pacing, he is able to paint pictures with his music, transporting listeners and creating an experience.
Fionn (White Rock) // www.fionnband.com
Fionn’s Alanna and Brianne Finn-Morris might be young, but don’t let that fool you. The 20-year-old twins from White Rock, British Columbia, have been singing together for most of their lives, forging folk-pop sound centred around the sort of telepathically tight vocal harmonies that only siblings could deliver. Lyrics that deliver both sharp social commentary and poignantly personal reflections are backed by arrangements that range from lushly orchestrated balladry to boot-stomping roots-rock. At the heart of it all, the intertwined voices of Alanna and Brianne sparkle, singing songs that suggest an old, wise soul dwells behind Fionn’s fresh faces.
Cenzina (Vancouver) // soundcloud.com/cenzinamusic
Vancouver based artist, delivering powerful smokey vocals to intimate lyrics and songwriting. While her style doesn’t fit under any specific genre, her sound is influenced by a range of genres from Alternative to HIP HOP to classic rock.
