"Music That May Help You Connect With Your Heart"
Founded in 2015 by Nils Frahm, WORLD PIANO DAY is an annual worldwide event which takes place on the 88th day of the year – derived from the number of keys on a piano. The goal of Piano Day is simple: to raise the profile of the piano, inspire more people to play the piano and encourage piano playing in public spaces. Nils Frahm says "it doesn't hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers and most important, the listener".
Because World Piano Day 2026 is a Sunday, I will be celebrating this event the evening before, on Saturday March 28, 2026 7:30 pm at St Andrews River Heights United Church (Wheelchair Accessible - outside ramp/indoor elevator).
Pianist Danny Carroll is a seasoned Manitoba artist and performer. At the core of all of the music he composes and plays is a soulful expression of musically ‘thinking in sound’. His original music combines many different genres (jazz, neo-classical (akin to Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm and Max Richter), classical-crossover, electronic instruments) and improvisation into a very accessible and unique musical voice.
This WORLD PIANO DAY concert will be performed on a grand piano, and FELT Piano, with some electronic instruments sprinkled throughout the program. Joining me for part of the concert is Nenad Zdjelar on Upright and Electric Bass.
Interwoven throughout the music are Danny's insightful thoughts and humorous stories from his life's journey.
Winnipeg Free Press “Carroll has composed genre-blurring works that have elements of classical, new age, jazz and electronics meant to keep the ‘ol ticker beating from one life-affirming moment to the next.”
In the Spotlight – CJNU Radio “Very relaxing stuff, very therapeutic. Puts you in a good mind set. … a beautiful album he has put together.”
Danny’s music has been heard in many Winnipeg theatre productions: Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Manitoba Theatre for Young People, and Winnipeg Jewish Theatre. He has also created music for children’s choir, film, and corporate videos.
Danny is a gigging pianist, a favourite performer for many private and corporate functions. He played often at the Hotel Fort Garry lounge for 18 years. Danny has played for Rainbow Stage (Canada’s largest outdoor musical theatre venue) as rehearsal pianist, pit musician and Music Director, and is inducted in the Wall of Fame at Rainbow Stage.
He has a Bachelor of Music (Composition) and Masters in Education.
“My vision is to create, perform and record music that aids in the healing of the human spirit,
is rooted in heartfelt soulfulness, and guided by intuition.”
Tickets: $30.00 (plus fees/GST)
Part of the proceeds will be donated to Harvest Manitoba
