Abstract:

The presentation will explore the importance of developing designs that are robust and will consider the elements that contribute to a robust design throughout the project lifecycle from design basis definition to performance.  Robust designs are an important element of risk management.  The presentation will provide an example of the approach to the development of a robust design in practice, which is of value to various types of projects.  In particular, development of robust designs is a requirement of the Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management (GISTM) in support of its intent to enhance the safety of tailings facilities.
