Grindstone Comedy Fest Showcase

A local showcase from the best of the best, featuring local talent from Edmonton and afar.

FEATURING: Sean Lecomber, Sterling Scott, Will Hannigan, Siobhan Theobald, Andrew Crone, Brittany Lyseng, Matt Nightingale, Erika Ehler & Aaron Read

Headliner: Sean Lecomber

Sean is a CBC Debaters regular who filmed his first Just for Laughs gala in 2013 and is the winner of the Just for Laughs homegrown competition. Sean’s other festival credits include 3 appearances at the Halifax comedy festival as well as the Winnipeg comedy festival in 2013 and 2016. He has written for this hour has 22 minutes and is a two time Canadian comedy award nominee. His work can also be heard on XM Radio.

Sterling Scott

A high-energy performer and audience favourite, Sterling’s material stems from his experiences with relationships, family, being a father, current events, his out look on life and the world, and those awkward moments that people from all walks of life can relate to.

Sterling has traveled all across Canada the U.S. and even overseas with notable performances as champion of the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2019, gala performances at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal and performing for the troops in Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Dubai. As a writer and actor Sterling has appeared on the television show “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” and recently sold a show to Kevin Hart’s LOL Network!

Will Hannigan

Will Hannigan has been touring all over Canada since he started performing stand-up comedy at 18. He has a commanding, conversational presence on stage. He talks about family, working, practicing alcoholism and recovering from all that practice. He has had appearances at the Just For Laughs NorthWest Festival can be heard on Sirius XM. You can find him on Twitter and Instagram @willyhannigan.

Siobhan Theobald

Armed with a lifetime of being poorly behaved in public, Siobhan Theobald is taking her experience as one of the worst dinner guests imaginable and applying it to the stage. Her stand-up performances are a combination of spicy hot takes, unbridled oversharing and a repertoire of strange sounds presented by what appears to be a Muppet trapped in a woman’s body. You won’t be able to look away despite her periodically begging you to do so. Siobhan was the runner up in the 2021 Grindstone Comedy Festivals “Stand Up Stand Off” and has been featured across Canada for her performances with “Laughter From the Frontlines”.

Andrew Crone

Andrew was named Kelowna Comedy's hardest act to follow for good reason. His cutting comic wit is unparalleled and unrelenting. He is truly a fan favourite. He has verbally sliced and diced his way across Western Canada, alongside some of the biggest touring acts in the country. He has performed at Just For Laughs Northwest, the Kelowna Comedy Festival, and the Summer Comedy Smackdown, where he came away victorious. Audiences always leave wanting more of Andrew’s unique comedy.

Brittany Lyseng

Brittany Lyseng is a nationally touring Stand-Up Comedian, Writer and Podcaster. Her comedy career began after 12 years as a tradesman with the desire to lift less and laugh more, and in turn has become one of the Canadian industry’s fastest rising stars. She has been seen on CTV’s Roast Battles Canada, CBC’s New Wave of Stand-Up Comedy, Kevin Hart’s LOL Network, and CTV’s The Stand-Up Show with Jon Dore, as well as making appearances on CBC Radio’s The Debaters. Released in 2019, her first album Going Up debuted at #1 on iTunes and was followed with appearances at three Just For Laughs festivals (Montreal, JFL 42 in Toronto, and Vancouver’s JFL Northwest). Most recently she was featured in Reader’s Digest magazine, and was graced with a 2022 Canadian Screen Awards nomination.

Erika Ehler

Erika’s razor-sharp, dark and visceral writing paired with precise delivery makes her one of the most exciting young comedians on the circuit. She has quickly become a much in demand writer and comedian working on numerous high profile shows.

Erika has recently written for the fourth series of Comedy Central’s Roast Battle, Netflix’s Death to 2020, BBC’s Have I Got News For You, Dave’s Bad Advice and Sky’s Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

In 2019, she was crowned winner of the Chortle Student Comedy Award, was the recipient of the Mike Craig Comedy Award, and the Hot Water Roast Battle Champion.

Erika has recently appeared on Frankie Boyle's New World Order (BBC Two), Comedians Giving Lectures (Dave) and Dave's Comedy Guide To Life.

Aaron Read

Aaron Read is an award-winning stand up comic and improviser from so-called Vancouver, Canada. His comedy wedges itself somewhere between sad-silliness and freaky psychedelia, and has garnered him numerous awards including Just For Laughs North West’s, Breakout Artist Of The Year and Toughest Act To Follow.

Starting comedy in highschool Aaron has been confusing and delighting audiences for more than fifteen years! He’s performed on The Next Wave of Stand Up on CBC and New Faces Of Comedy at The Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. He even garnered this fun blurb from country/comedy publication Parton and Pearl saying, “He’s the alt-comedy of the early 2000s for today’s quick thinking comedy nerds”.

Live comedy is where he is most at home, performing on Andy Kindler’s Alternative Show, and opening up for Jena Friedman (Comedy Central). Woof, Bio done! Just come watch Aaron tell jokes about depression and barfing dream snakes.

Matt Nightingale

Matt Nightingale's sharp observations and devilishly playful writing always keeps the audience on their toes. A regular at Rumor's Comedy Club in Winnipeg, and member of sketch comedy group HUNKS, Matt has performed in comedy clubs and festivals across North America including the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the San Francisco Comedy Festival, Chicago SketchFest, and Edmonton's legendary Improvaganza. He hopes to one day own a slow cooker.
