About The Show:
Table Rock Restaurant is being transformed into the world’s grandest jazz club for an evening of unparalleled delight — and insight — exploring Black music history. Into a room with an incomparable view overlooking Niagara Falls, that draws energy and inspiration from this natural geologic wonder and river symbolic of Freedom’s Line, arrives Carlos Morgan, a dynamic soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz musician and music educator who will both inform and entertain.
Carlos Morgan shares his in-depth knowledge on the history and contributions of some of the best Black artists and musicians in Canada. During his presentations for TD Niagara Jazz Festival Black History Month performances in February, including the special Thursday, February 15, 2024 event at Table Rock, Morgan will take audiences through the timelines of some of the best, yet widely unknown Black artists, who have made and continue to make indelible contributions to the Canadian music industry.
“I’m taking classic R&B soul songs and giving them jazz stylings and interpretations, calling it The R&B Jazz Songbook,” said Morgan. The concert will feature original songs by Morgan and songs by Prince, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, The Beatles, and James Ingram to name a few. “As a Black singer, songwriter, and recording artist, born and raised in Canada, I wasn’t educated about the contributions of Black artists and musicians in Canada who were and are an integral part of our cultural identity and have laid the foundation for music in Canada, though they are not widely known,” he stated. “This is why I am passionate about sharing the history of Black music in Canada.”
