Welcome to the Cabaret Laboratory, where we explore and expand our understanding and presentation of performance through a cabaret lens.

This winter we have two 6-week series available and a few specialty classes!
All classes are held at Evergreen Spaces in the Fir Studio.
Please note the start time of your class! Showpass will give a generic start time and date based on the overall event - not the ticket purchased. 

Flirt Choreography Series with Bitch Sassidy
Sundays from 6:00 to 7:30PM
February 5th to March 12th

This movement-focused series is an opportunity to learn to move like a burlesque artist! The power, the sensuality, the grace, cheek, and play. We will focus on empowerment, precision, improvisation, confidence, and a combined physical-emotional build and release. This choreography is not intended for performance, but as a vessel to explore or try out burlesque, to challenge and celebrate your beautiful self!

Sing & Strip Series with Ivy La Fleur
Sundays from 8:00 to 9:00PM
February 5th to March 12th

Taught by Ivy la Fleur, the Songbird of Striptease. This 6 week series will teach you how to work the art of singing into your burlesque routines and vice versa! From song choice, breath, moments of tease and movement- by the end of this series you will have your very own sing & strip act that best highlights all your assets.

Draglesque with Karla Marx 
Monday February 6 and 13 from 7:00 to 8:00PM

This course is designed to help drag performers embrace the art of burlesque! Over two weeks, students will learn tips and tricks to adapt drag costumes for burlesque, new moves to turn drag reveals into burlesque peels, and add new elements of tease into their performance art. This class is intended for performers who already perform in drag or understand the basics of drag costuming and makeup.

Fan Dance Fundamentals with Bea Lissima

Floor Work Fundamentals with Bea Lissima
Monday March 6 from 7:00 to 9:00PM

Learn basics of floor work with Bea, focusing on transitions, building strength, and putting moves together. This class has a choreography component. Mobility aids are welcomed in this class, and needs will be tailored to each participant.

Circus Performance for Burlesque with Ruffen Tumble
Monday March 13 from 7:00 to 9:00PM

Explore ways to integrate circus and flow arts into your stagecraft with Ruffen Tumble. In this class we'll focus on intentional movement, circus props as an extension of your body, and how to successfully present circus props to an audience. We'll also look at the core best practises to elevate and accentuate your prop based performances! Please note this class is aimed at those with a pre-existing skill set in circus / flow arts off which to build and grow their stagecraft and as such is not a technical skill class. Students are asked to provide their own props with which they'd like to work.

If at anytime a student feels unwell, we require them to not attend class. A student may return to class once they feel well. This is to protect the other attendees and the instructor from falling ill themselves.
