Description
Experience a captivating night of boundary-pushing sound and visual art where four presentations are conducted over two floors at Theater 1308. This evening, two musical acts and two visual artists will present a set of their distinct individual practice. We hope that this collision of artists will inspire and delight you, as genres blur, themes collide, and we collectively revise our understanding of artistic experience, creation and presentation in public spaces.

SliP
The Secret Lady Project throws away the box in favour of exploration. Having spent much of our lives drenched in European musical traditions that insist on categorizing and confining each instrument and body, this project emerges defiant. We are interested in making art that ignores boundaries and centers lived experiences and our audience.
SLiP is a community-centered project based in Mohkinstsis territory and consists of four artists; Holly DeCaigny, saxophone, Nia Devetzis, percussion, Laura Jones, voice/dramaturgy, and Kelsey Noble, flute. Our pronouns are she/her. The spaces we inhabit and the art we create will be inclusive, anti-hierarchy and strive to lift up voices that need hearing.
Mythmaking
In Mythmaking's powerful and vulnerable baritone, lyrics become litany lifted up by melodic fragments of 6 and 8 string guitar, antique piano, swathes of analog and digital synthesizer drone, and environmental field recordings. They petition unseen gods about self-identity with nature, the fragility of the human experience, and the ceaseless wonder and discipline of love.
Mythmaking is the solo project of Isaac Szeto, an experimental singer-songwriter based out of Calgary, Alberta. Mythmaking’s debut album The Pit was released in the spring of 2020, and has been played on campus radio all across Canada, including Calgary’s CJSW, and Edmonton’s CJSR. Mythmaking’s sophomore album is currently in progress.
Kevin Stebner
Kevin Stebner is a multi-disciplinary writer, musician, and artist from Calgary, Alberta. His first book of poems, Sunshine Policy, is out from Straw Books. Throughout the pandemic he has dedicated the time focused on preparing his first novel, No Thing but Nothing. On top of that Stebner has been delving into the world of concrete poetry, the result of which has been an astounding array of over 300 typewriter visual poems, many of which are appearing in chapbooks and publications (recently from Blasted Tree, NonPlusUltra, NoPress & Timglaset). He is also the proprietor of Calgary's best bookstore that's in a shed, Shed Books.
Kino
Hesam Ohadi (b. 1987 in Tehran) is an Iranian Canadian interdisciplinary artist and creator currently residing in Calgary, Canada. Aside from their sonic explorations in experimental electronic and electroacoustic music under the moniker “Idlefon”, Ohadi creates New Media artworks under their alias “Kino” which span across various mediums such as performance, kinetic sculpture, interactive installation and net art.
They are interested in making abstract art forms and algorithm-driven pieces. To achieve this, they use their computer in combination with custom-made software and utilizes creative coding, generative design, and nature-influenced processes.
They have taken part in numerous collaborative projects with fellow artists as well as releasing solo pieces. Apart from their personal work, Ohadi is also a co-founder and technical director at the Design+Technology studio CODON Interactive Media, a collective of artists experimenting in the fields of interaction design and computer arts since 2012. To support like-minded creatives working in similar fields as them, Ohadi helped found and manage the experimental art label BITROT and SET Experimental Art Events in which they are one of the curators and organizers.
