U of C philosopher Dr. Tinu Ruparell and Cumming School of Medicine professors Dr. Martina Kelly and Dr. Simon Colgan in conversation on reimagining health and health care. Featuring acclaimed soprano Hannah Pagenkopf and harpsichordist Justin Luchinski performing a mini-concert of Baroque reimaginings of pop hits.

About the Speakers & Artists

Dr. Simon Colgan is a palliative care physician working in the Calgary and is the founder of CAMPP (Calgary’s Allied Mobile Palliative Program). CAMPP is mobile, palliative program targeting people experiencing homelessness and others vulnerably housed. CAMPP works closely in partnership with shelters, homeless sector agencies, Indigenous communities, AHS programs, O’Brien Institute, University of Calgary and many others to help ensure seamless, equitable care. 

Dr. Martina Kelly is a family physician and professor of family medicine and community health sciences, Cumming School of Medicine.  She is interested in doctor-patient relationships, medicine as experienced through the senses and how insights from philosophy can inform better medical healthcare and training.

Dr. Tinu Ruparell is an Associate Professor of Comparative Philosophy of Religion at the University of Calgary. Focussed on theories of trans-boundary interpretation, he is interested in the philosophical questions arising from understanding others from very different backgrounds, disciplines, and worldviews. He teaches and researches in science and religion, inter-religious/inter-cultural dialogue, comparative philosophy, and the health humanities.

Praised for the “special, silvery beauty and expressiveness” of her singing (Calgary Herald), soprano Hannah Pagenkopf has been featured extensively as a soloist and performer in Calgary and abroad. She has been featured as a soloist and performer by Mountain View Festival, Luminous Voices, Cowtown Opera, Early Music Voices, the Calgary Bach Society, and the Pro Arts Society, among others. She has also appeared as a soloist with several orchestras including the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Red Deer Symphony Orchestra, and baroque chamber orchestra Rosa Barocca. Most recently Hannah reached the finals of the NATS Artist Awards competition in New York City, placing 2nd and winning an additional prize for “Most Promising Singer”.

Justin Luchinski began an active career in early music performance in Montréal while completing his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees at the Schulich School of Music, McGill University. Before moving back to his hometown in 2020, for over half a decade Justin was a regular rehearsal keyboardist with Opera McGill’s baroque opera productions, and had regular season concerts, performances at the Montréal Baroque Festival, recording projects, and nation-wide touring with Les Méandres, the ensemble of which he is a co-founder. Since returning to Calgary, Justin has worked with Early Music Voices, String Theory Music Collective, performed at the National Music Centre, collaborated with various musicians from the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and stepped into the role of Co-Artistic Director of the Chamber Muse Historical Music Society of Calgary.
