This session will focus on capturing the beauty of the night sky and specifically the most elusive wonder of the night, the northern lights. Through sharing visual examples and informative information this session aims to provide information for beginners and up on how to chase the northern lights and capture their beauty in the Canadian wilderness.

Find out why the Canadian Prairies is one of the best places on earth to view the wonders of the night while learning tips and suggestions to keep updated on space weather and the cosmic wonders of the night.

Jeanine has been chasing the northern lights in the Canadian Prairies for over 6 years. An active member of the Saskatchewan Aurora and global aurora community, she has continued to pursue her passion exploring the depths of space weather. By breaking down basics of space weather, what to look for and how to observe, the attendees will be more prepared for their next opportunity to see the most amazing light show on earth. With visual impact this session will include an introduction to the world of aurora photography and its unique and special demands, not only will you be able to know when the best times to see them are, you will also take away some tips for capturing your own photos of this magical wonder. By providing tips and suggesting data sources, the participants will be encouraged to monitor the data and hopefully see the aurora even while attending the Jasper Dark Sky Festival!
