Block Party 2020

The AMS Block Party returns for its 13th year - the event you’ve been looking forward to all year, proudly presented to you by your AMS Events.  

As an event by UBC students, for UBC students and the campus community, it is intended as a safe and festive event that will bring students and friends together in a celebration of a year completed, and a summer soon to start.

Block Party: A How-To Guide

DO Bring:

ϟ 2 pieces of Government issued ID, at least one piece of ID with a picture. You must be 19 or older to enter Block Party

ϟ Your Ticket

ϟ Money. Drink tickets are $6 each. $6 for a can of Nude Vodka Soda. $7 for a can of Central City Brewing.  Calculate accordingly. 

ϟ Actual clothing, real shoes. Hypothermia's not hot, no matter how skinny your jeans are.

ϟ A friend or two, look out for each other!

ϟ Plan a safe way to get home in advance

 

Do Not Bring:

ϟ Umbrella. Poke your friends' eyes out some other day.

ϟ Projectiles/Weaponry including pocket knives. Don't be that person.

ϟ Sports equipment i.e. footballs, Frisbees, goats, etc..

ϟ Any glass items.

ϟ Cameras (Phone cameras are fine)

ϟ Water Bottles

ϟ Alcohol and other drinks/food from outside.

ϟ Chairs, loungers, couches, or pets. Seriously.

ϟ A Bag, if you can help it. You’ll get in faster if you don’t bring a bag (Entry is permissible upon bag check)

ϟ Yourself intoxicated. If you are intoxicated, we won't let you in.

ϟ Culturally inappropriate clothing - any clothing that belongs to or is associated with a culture other than yours, any culture's clothing other than your own that you are wearing as a costume.

This event will happen come rain come shine, your ticket is not refundable!

There will be no in & outs allowed at the event; once you are in, you're in.

This event takes place on the occupied, unceded, ancestral territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nation and the Coast Salish peoples more broadly. Our ability to work, play, and organize on this land is tied directly to the violence against these communities, past and present. Due to the intersecting forces of colonialism, poverty, institutional racism, and intergenerational trauma (among other factors), indigenous people experience overdoses at a rate three times higher than the general public. These facts must be in the forefront of our minds and actions as we undertake this work.
