BottleRocket Class: Physical Improv Bootcamp

• Date: Saturday, August 22nd, 2026 from 9am-4pm
• Location: BonnyBoom Arts Uncommon
• Ideal Class Size: 8-10
Workshop Description
A one-day workshop covering the full range of physicality in improv! Whether you’re relatively new to
improv (around 1 year) or a seasoned performer, you’ll get tools, techniques, and ideas to get your
scenes moving.
In the first half of the workshop, you’ll explore object work, environment skills, and purposeful movement
for grounded/realistic scenework (comedic or dramatic). In the second half, you’ll explore physicality
and movement for abstract/fantastical scenes, including some light acrobatics.
You will learn:
• How to be more physical in improv, even if you’ve found it uncomfortable or confusing in the past.
• A new approach to object work that takes the pressure off “getting it right.”
• When and how to move (or NOT move) to boost the impact of your dialogue.
• How to interact safely with other improvisers when being more physical.
• Techniques for strengthening your body for increased physicality.
• Tools to make you a more versatile improviser.
You don’t have to be bendy or acrobatic to join us (though you should be prepared to move – please
dress in appropriate clothing/shoes for movement, no jeans).

About the Instructors

Jacintha Damström (Helsinki, Finland) has been a circus artist since 1996 and
started with improv in 2012. In 2016, she was invited to perform in the wordless
show Decibel! with French comedians Morgan Mansouri and Frédéric Pont, with
whom she integrated acrobatics into improv besides mime and comedy. Since
then, she has performed and taught at improv festivals around the world. She is a
leading member of the professional improvisation group Stjärnfall in Helsinki.
Jacintha also works as a classical musician, physical actress, and clown.

David Raitt (Toronto, ON, Canada) is an alumnus of The Second City Canadian
National Touring Company and played with the Mainstage ensemble for several
extended contracts. He has over 25 years of experience as an improv instructor.
He is the author of The Improv Illusionist, the first book dedicated to physical
improv. Dave regularly performs and teaches in the Greater Toronto Area and at
improv festivals around the world.
