About the film:

From the official Bones of Crows website (https://bonesofcrows.com/)

Bones of Crows contains elements of Indigenous culture, spirituality, values, beliefs, philosophy, and intellectual property that have existed since time immemorial.

Inspired by true events, this film is about Canada’s Indian Residential Schools… The film is told through the eyes of Cree Matriarch, Aline Spears, [and her] family’s story of survival in a colonial system and their pursuit for freedom and justice.

Bones of Crows is the first Indigenous and female-led produced, written, and directed drama about the residential school experience in North America. The film was made in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report that recommends the creation of public programming and education about the true history of the Indian Residential School system.

This film is based on actual events of colonial violence and trauma that many Indigenous people have experienced, including the removal of children. Some of the scenes may be upsetting or triggering, particularly for direct or indirect intergenerational survivors of residential school in the audience. We honour your experience.
