NYE 2019 - A Surrealist Ball / Eyes Wide Shut in a Dream World

Drawing inspiration from the subconscious, Surrealism was / is a practise by visual artists, dancers, and authors aiming to glimpse and interpret that which is just beyond the knowable, and just outside of the realm of the material. The wartime progentiors of the movement reacted to the carnage around them by delving into their dreams, and pulling out fragments of sometimes absurd and often meaningfully confusing and abstract images. The old-moneyed landowners, nouveau riche, and industrial classes celebrated the movement and co-opted the imagery to decorate their increasingly elaborate and ritualistic parties resulting in timeless photographs of opulent-masked elites in expensive finery enjoying a fantastical and erotic escape from the harrowing realities of the day.

It is these photographs that inspired our theme, and with the most cordial of invitations we beseech you to join us on Monday Dec 31 at Vancouver's finest art studio and event space, The Beaumont Studios, for a Surrealist Ball. Let your imagination run wild and enter a dream state of your own inside our immersive themed environment, and have your corporeal form entranced to the sounds of our world-class talent.
