BIG LITTLE LIONS with DoubleSuede

Chinook Musical Society presents nine "Saturday Night Special" concerts every year, featuring a range of genres from folk and country, to blues, Celtic and folk rock. While we do present acts from all over North America, and some international, we are especially proud to showcase our Canadian and local Alberta artists.
The evening starts with one set from our opening artist, followed by two sets from our headliner.

On Saturday October 25, 2025 we are pleased to present Big Little Lions with DoubleSuede!

Big Little Lions have been described as ‘a blissful marriage of new folk and sophisticated pop’. Prolific song writing, an infectious folk-pop style, and an offbeat, memorable live show. This award-winning duo consists of Helen Austin and Paul Otten who, despite living thousands of miles apart, have found a way to connect and create music together. Despite being in two different countries, they have found common ground to share their message.

Their music has been placed in hundreds of movie trailers, ads, network TV shows. Kicking the evening off will be Calgary duo DoubleSuede... a modern blending of the classic sounds of 50’s & 60’s Rock and Country. 

Casey Shalala is on the upright bass and with his unique slap and pop style he manages to be equal parts bassist and drummer. Recently seen on the hit TV show “Virgin River”, Casey is a captivating presence that everyone remembers when the show is over. Award winning singer/songwriter Matt Beatty is both the guitarist and vocalist and has been performing professionally for 20 years. His reverb “slab back echo” guitar style is equal parts vintage and room filling and his vocals can tackle any style from Hank & Elvis to Tom Jones and Brian Setzer. Matt recently did a spot on the Paramount tv show “Joe Picket” which featured two original compositions.
