Description

Step back in time and create a clay pinch pot inspired by the art and symbols of ancient Egypt. This project begins with the simple hand-building method of forming a pot by pinching and shaping the clay until it feels balanced and smooth in your hands. Once the form is finished, the real storytelling begins.

Artists will add engravings that echo the look of Egyptian pottery and carved stone. Think hieroglyphic-style marks, sun motifs, lotus flowers, protective eyes, and other designs that feel like they could have been created along the Nile thousands of years ago. Each line and symbol becomes part of your pot’s history, giving it character and meaning.

To complete the experience participants will also make a scarab beetle keychain. The scarab beetle was a symbol of protection and rebirth in Egyptian culture and it adds a fun personal touch to your project. You will shape your own beetle add carved details and turn it into a small charm you can carry anywhere.

This project blends archaeology and creativity, offering a hands-on way to explore one of the world’s oldest artistic traditions. By the end you will have a beautifully textured pinch pot and a scarab beetle keychain that feel like treasures from an ancient workshop.

Bad Art Club is a monthly creative program at PACE that invites artists, non-artists, and everyone in between to create without fear. There are no critiques, no grades, and no pressure to be "good". Just space to explore, express, experiment, and connect with fellow art lovers.

This is a judgment-free zone that celebrates imperfection, weirdness, boldness, and fun. All materials are provided, and each session is guided by a quirky theme or playful art prompt.
