“PARTNERSHIP FOR LASTING PEACE: UKRAINE AND CANADA IN NATO'S NEW ERA”

The NATO Association of Canada (NAOC) is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to informing Canadians about the importance of NATO’s mission to promote peace, prosperity, and security in an increasingly interconnected world. NAOC’s vision is to highlight the cultural, security, and economic significance of the transatlantic relationship between Canada, NATO allies, and global partners through events, publications, and policy analysis.

Founded in 1966, the NAOC is based in Toronto, with chapters in Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver. Last year, NAOC put together and supported 56 events across 7 provinces to celebrate the 75thanniversary of NATO. In June 2024, the NATO Association of Canada hosted an honourary event for NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

NAOC collaborates with key national organizations in the fields of security and defence, such as the Conference of Defence Associations, the Canadian Forces College, and the Royal Canadian Military Institute, as well as universities and diplomatic missions.

On May 31st, the NAOC is organizing the Safeguarding Ukraine’s Future Conference in Toronto, in partnership with the Embassy and Consulate of Ukraine, the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce, and Mriya Aid.

 

Olena Kryzhanivska is a defence analyst and Senior Editor at the NATO Association of Canada. She holds an MA in Political Science from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and a PhD in Political Science from Gazi University in Turkey. She was awarded the Helen Darcovich Memorial Doctoral Fellowship from the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (University of Alberta) 2023/2024 for her doctoral research.

For over two years, Olena has been closely monitoring developments in military transfers, defence production, and innovation in the context of Russia’s war on Ukraine. She publishes a regular newsletter, Ukraine’s Arms Monitor, and has authored analysis on a range of security and defense topics, including drone warfare in Ukraine (Counteroffensive.Pro), Ukraine’s demining needs (Kyiv Post), and prevention of weapons diversion in Ukraine (The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction). At the NATO Association of Canada, Olena focuses on topics relevant to a Canadian audience and has authored several articles, such as Three Russian Threats And How Canada Can Prepare For Them; Canada’s Military Assistance To Ukraine In 2024: Key Trends; NATO And Conventional Arms Control In The Context Of The Russian War On Ukraine.
