Five-time JUNO nominee and seven-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner Andrew Collins brings his acclaimed trio to The Vill for an evening of extraordinary musicianship, playful energy and boundary-pushing acoustic music.

A master of the mandolin - and equally at home on fiddle, guitar, mandola and mandocello - Collins has become a major force in Canada’s roots music scene. Alongside fellow string virtuoso Adam Shier and bassist, mandocello player and vocalist James McEleney, he creates music that moves effortlessly from blazing bluegrass and folk to jazz, newgrass and chamber-inspired arrangements.

With a dizzying range of instruments, tight interplay and quick-witted stage presence, The Andrew Collins Trio delivers the kind of performance that keeps audiences completely locked in. Their sound has been described as “chambergrass”: raw and rhythmic one moment, intricate and sophisticated the next.

The trio’s latest release, Retro, revisits some of Collins’ signature music through fresh arrangements and spirited ensemble playing - from high-speed bluegrass to jazzy waltzes and classical reinterpretations.
