Have you ever wondered what Barbershop singing is? Hint: it’s not singing at the barber! Barbershop singing is a style of a cappella (unaccompanied singing) using an interesting blend of four-part harmony. The Anchormen have been singing barbershop in St. John’s since their formation in 1956 by American personnel stationed at Fort Pepperrell. 

Please join us for “An Evening with The Anchormen” at D.F. Cook Hall, MUN School of Music, 7:30pm on April 8, 2023. This public “rehearsal” will give an immersive experience into the world of barbershop harmony through songs like Lean on Me, Take me out to the Ball Game, and tunes from legendary artists like Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen. Several quartets will sing songs that are sure to bring back memories. Special guests Close Quarters, a brilliant local women’s barbershop quartet, are sure to delight.
