Description

Centennial Theatre's own Artists & Musicians Performance Series (AMPS) returns with a hand-picked showcase of local talents.

Featuring:

Colin Sankey

Colin Sankey is a bassist, composer, and arranger from Vancouver, BC. His compositions seamlessly merge Jazz with funk, Latin, and rock music, creating a toe-tapping fusion with lush harmonies and blazing improvisations. A technical guru in his own right, he is frequently compared to Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, and Alain Caron. Accompanied by saxophone virtuoso Brent Mah, drum set master Eliot Doyle, keyboard wizard Winston Matsushita, and guitar shredder Sebastian Chamney, Colin puts on a show complete with virtuosity, groove, and raw musicality.

Colin is the 1st place winner of the 2022 Phil Jones Solo Bass Competition and the 2nd place winner of the 2021 BITE Bass Contest. He has been featured on George Collier's YouTube channel, with over 800,000 subscribers. Colin’s debut album Reawakening has been featured on Bass Magazine and CBC Radio. He recently released his second album Colin Response, on February 15, 2025.

Colin recently went viral with his arrangements of Get Lucky by Daft Punk, Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes, and the Mario Theme, reaching over 15 million views between the three arrangements on Instagram and TikTok. He continues to share his inspiring arrangements of popular music with his 226,000+ followers across all social media platforms.

Savonarola

Savonarola is a rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia formed in 2017 by guitarist/vocalist Jeff Baker and bassist Rune Mikkelsen. Drummer Tio Zeke joined the band in 2023 to complete the current power trio line up. Since its formation, Savonarola has played original music exclusively, spanning electric to acoustic while blending soul, punk, and jazz elements into their sound. The band took its name after the renaissance friar Girolamo Savonarola in a nod to Baker and Mikkelsen’s shared passion for art history. The band’s high energy live shows have rocked many historic Vancouver stages, including the Railway Club, Rio Theatre, Fox Cabaret, and the Roxy. Savonarola has released an EP, 5 singles, 4 videos, and their song “Might be Bad” featured in the film myPhone (2022).
