Van Tap Presents: "All Together Now 2026"

This incredible night of tap dance is split between the world premiere of an original new work by Max Pollak — performed by local and international guest dancers and with contributions from extraordinary performers and groups in Vancouver's dance community.

Max Pollak: Max is a living instrument and one of the few living masters of tap and human rhythm expression. This new work, created exclusively for this show, is an epic collaboration between Max and a cast of local and international guest dancers, bringing his signature fusion of tap, body percussion, and Afro-Cuban rhythm to the Vancouver stage for the first time. Expect rhythm as language — voices, bodies, and feet woven into a single instrument, telling a story only Max could tell.

And beyond that debut, this is a true community show! A night where Vancouver's dance community takes the stage together, side by side with a legend, celebrating the art form that connects them all.

About the Artist: Max Pollak

Born in Vienna and trained in New York, Max spent decades fusing American rhythm tap with Afro-Cuban music and dance to create RumbaTap, a form that merges tap dance with Afro-Cuban rhythm and body percussion. He's the only non-Cuban member of the legendary Afro-Cuban folkloric ensemble Los Muñequitos de Matanzas — an honor extended to almost no outsider, in any art form.

His body is his drum kit. His feet are his sticks. And over a career that's taken him from Vienna's Konzerthaus and Zurich's Tonhalle to stages across Europe, Japan, Cuba, Brazil, Turkey, Canada and the United States, Max has shared the stage with giants like: Chucho Valdés, Ray Brown, Paquito D'Rivera, Slide Hampton, and Danilo Pérez among them. He's featured on a U.S. Postal Service Forever Stamp honoring tap dance as a testament to the mark he's left on the art form.

Now, Max returns to Vancouver to create an original new work exclusively for this stage — performed alongside a cast of local and international guest dancers. Rhythm as language. Body as instrument. This is a night you will not see again.
