Marigold (Lethbridge, AB)
https://marigoldbabes.bandcamp.com/releases
This new duo of Lethbridge babes have only been on stage together for a short time, but have both been active in the province’s music scene long before then. Their members are organizers of FLIP Fest, our Southern sister fest, and have worked for BeatRoute Magazine, covering the always bustling and burgeoning Lethbridge scene. Now, in Marigold, they’re packing all the punch and mincing no words. Full of feelings, ready for friendship, and picking flowers – Marigold are set to be your new faves.

Sweater Kittens (Kamloops, BC)
https://sweaterkittensband.com/video
Formed during a moment of drunken clarity, Sweater Kittens started as an aesthetic that mirrored its birthplace: a New Year’s Eve house party, littered with empty whiskey bottles, glitter confetti, and bowls of half-eaten guacamole.

After a rousing group rendition of “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” (yes, from Disney’s, The Lion King), Ashley (guitar) and Mallory (bass) dove deep into a conversation about starting a femme rock band. They left the party with a band name, a million-and-a-half merch ideas, and a commitment to starting on a musical journey together.

Today, Sweater Kittens is prolifically creating fuzzy, bass-laden, grunge rock, inspired by their riot grrrl predecessors and all the artists that helped them through their teenage years.

Feed Dogs (Edmonton, AB)
https://feeddogs.bandcamp.com/
This YEG favourite has come a long way since getting their start at Not Enough Fest 3 years ago. Their anguish soaked brand of trashy, queer pop-punk continues to evolve, with their new release “bless this mess’ showcasing the heartbreaking range of the Burnett twins buried within catchy but complex melodies and intricate, keep ya guessing leads.

Dealing with themes of violence, trauma and power, this album is a rager that invites listeners to dance, cry, scream, and raucously move through the heartbreak of living in such a messed up world.
