About Albert Marquès & Rachel Therrien

When pianist Albert Marquès and trumpeter Rachel Therrien come together, improvisation takes centre stage.

Both artists have built international reputations as fearless creators and collaborators. Marquès, born in Catalonia and long based in New York, is known for projects that fuse music with social consciousness, giving voice to stories of justice, memory, and resistance. Therrien, a Montréal-born trumpeter and flugelhornist, blends hard bop, Latin jazz, and contemporary electric influences with striking virtuosity and clarity of voice. A JUNO Award nominee for Vena and creator of the acclaimed Mi Hogar projects, she stands among Canada’s most compelling jazz artists.

Their new duo releases, Dialogue Vol. I and Dialogue Vol. II, capture the depth of their creative connection. The first volume leans into spontaneous, on-the-spot invention, while the second reimagines jazz standards alongside original compositions - each recording highlighting their intuitive interplay and shared appetite for risk.

Stripped down to trumpet and piano, their live performance is conversational, daring, and deeply lyrical. What unfolds is more than a concert - it’s an exchange of ideas in real time. Bold, intimate, and electrifying, Marquès and Therrien remind us that at the heart of jazz lies the thrill of discovery.
