Description
Ten long years after the beginning of the Trojan War, a lone watcher waiting in the pre-dawn darkness above the city of Argos finally sees a sign that the Greeks are victorious and that the King and his men are coming home. In the square below, a group of citizens discuss the tangled web of events that led to this moment. Inside the palace, the Queen makes final preparations to welcome her husband home.
A cursed house. A terrible choice. A bloody reunion. Agamemnon: A Polyphony is an original adaptation of Aiskylos's 2500-year old tragedy about the ways that violence, betrayal, and hubris, reverberate through family, society, the cosmos, and history alike. Told in many voices—Aiskylos himself, a number of modern translators, a range of poets responding to and inspired by his work, fragments and echoes of other plays, and original additions to and reimaginings of the dialogue—the Electric City Players present an ancient story, both intimate and enormous, that asks age-old questions about our place in ongoing legacies of violence.
