Description

Featuring four of the most prominent and emerging young artists in Canada, as well as the talented Nicole Bellamy on piano, this concert is not to be missed for anyone with interest in Opera and the classical voice.

Praised for her “sumptuous timbre”, Canadian Soprano Andrea Núñez is establishing herself as a versatile artist. She is a recent graduate of the Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montreal where she performed the roles of Woglinde in Das Rheingold, Governess in The Turn of the Screw (in collaboration with Orchestre symphonique de l’Agora) and Alice B. Toklas in Ricky Ian Gordon’s Twenty-Seven. Andrea was scheduled to perform the roles of Dame 1 in La flûte enchantée (Opéra de Montréal), High Priestess in Aida (Festival de Lanaudière) and Micaëla in Carmen (Sofia Opera). She will be returning to Opéra de Montréal to perform the role of Susanna in their production of Le noces de Figaro in 2021.

Originally from Prince Edward Island, mezzo soprano Jillian Clow received her Bachelor of Music from UPEI in 2015 and graduated from UBC in 2018 with her Master of Music in Opera under the guidance of Rhoslyn Jones. During her time at UBC she appeared as Vera Boronel in Menotti’s The Consul, Dryade in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, Tisbe in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, and most recently as Zweite Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Additionally, she performed the role of Ramiro in excerpts from Mozart’s Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe for a UBC Opera Tea. She was also a mezzo soloist in the VSO Traditional Christmas concert series. Recently, Jillian spent a summer studying at the Chautauqua Institute of Voice and completed an artist residency at the Lunenburg Academy of Music.

Baritone Nathan Keoughan is becoming known as a rising star to watch. His budding international career is bringing him recognition as a superb singing actor. Praised for his “booming, rich voice”, this fine actor has been lauded for his “charismatic, frightening and empathetic” performances (Broadway World). Born in the country to a musical family on Prince Edward Island, Nathan studied voice at the University of Prince Edward Island before joining the New England Conservatory in Boston. Nathan got his operatic start as an emerging artist in Calgary Opera’s young artist program followed by two seasons at l’Opéra de Montréal’s professional training program l’Atelier lyrique.

Originally from PEI, Nicole Bellamy has lived in Toronto for the past 20 years, working as an operatic vocal coach, répétiteur, and music director for multiple companies including Opera Atelier, Canadian Children's Opera Chorus, Opera Hamilton, National Ballet, and Canadian Stage co. She also maintained a busy private coaching studio in addition to coaching voice students at the University of Toronto, Royal Conservatory and Havergal College.

Sébastien Comtois is an up-and-coming operatic tenor hailing from Montréal. Sébastien is currently training with mezzo-soprano, Ariane Girard and focusing on the heldentenor repertoire. He will be studying the rôle of Don José at L’académie du Domaine Forget in the summer of 2021. In 2022, Sébastien will be part of the Dramatic Voices Program in Berlin where he will sing the role of Aegisth in Richard Strauss', Elektra.
