Description

This 2-hour technical session will cover several topics around the interactions between aerial acts and the performance staff and venue. Included will be discussions around:

  • Basic aerial rigging math for static and running points allowing for discussion regarding appropriate anchor points based off of forces involved, with consideration of the ANSI Performer Flying Standard;
  • Suggested documentation, technical riders and preparation from the artistic/aerialist side in order to properly brief the venue, and allow the venue to be prepared for useful conversation prior to load in;
  • Venue contracts with terminology protecting the performer and venue, as well as the insurance requirements from both parties;
  • When is an engineer required for an aerial installation or performance.

The Alberta Circus Arts Festival is proud to partner with the Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology – Alberta Section and Gaslamp FX Inc. to present professional rigging discussions tailored to the circus community. Sharing this knowledge is essential to ensure the safety, sustainability, and continued growth of our art form.
