Adam James isn't just a jazz singer; he's a force of nature—a musical chameleon who's been igniting stages for over four decades. When the legendary Quincy Jones proclaimed, "I've seen many guys perform Sinatra. Adam's the best," you know you're witnessing something extraordinary.

Hailing from Kapuskasing, Ontario—the same small town that produced James Cameron—Adam's journey to the global jazz scene is the stuff of legend. By four, he had a violin under his chin; by middle school, he was belting out tunes while pounding the drums in rock and jazz bands, collecting awards like it was second nature. His passion led him to McGill University in Montreal, where he earned a degree in jazz studies, immersing himself in the city's vibrant music scene.

But it was 1999 that truly set the stage for Adam's meteoric rise. Handpicked by Frank Sinatra's family to portray Ol' Blue Eyes in the first musical about his life, Adam didn't just step into Sinatra's shoes; he danced in them, bringing the legend's story to life with unparalleled authenticity. With New York calling, Adam then appeared in one of the longest-running off-Broadway shows of all time, Our Sinatra, at the iconic Birdland jazz club.

Sharing the spotlight with icons like Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Liza Minnelli, and Jann Arden, Adam's performances are nothing short of electrifying. His ability to connect with audiences transforms each show into an intimate, communal celebration of music. He's not just performing; he's inviting you into his world, making every note a shared experience.

One memorable moment unfolded at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Norah Jones, a powerhouse in her own right, introduced Adam to Ben Harper. Harper, known for his soulful blend of blues and rock, was reportedly transfixed upon meeting a dedicated career jazz singer like Adam, highlighting the unique space Adam occupies in the music world.

Beyond the stage, Adam's creativity knows no bounds. As the founder of Singstagram, he reinvents the classic singing telegram, crafting personalized theme songs that resonate in the digital age. His original compositions have found homes on streaming platforms, in films, TV shows, and even the Olympics. His commitment to collaboration is evident in his work with fellow songwriters and in leading innovation sessions for cutting-edge organizations.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Adam continues to push musical boundaries. He delivers a “keynote concert” that features three life stories and three songs, which audiences describe as exciting and powerfully transformative. His latest project, Adam James Sings Joni's Jazz, reimagines Joni Mitchell's classics through a jazz lens, breathing new life into timeless tracks.

History of the International Jazz Day

As the great Nina Simone said, "Jazz is not just music, it is a way of life, it is a way of being, a way of thinking". The story of Jazz is written into the quest for human dignity, democracy and civil rights. It has given strength to the struggle against discrimination and racism. UNESCO believes in the power of Jazz as a force for peace, dialogue and mutual understanding and this is why in November 2011, the UNESCO General Conference proclaimed April 30th as International Jazz Day.

This day is intended to raise awareness of the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for empathy, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people. Many governments, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and private citizens currently engaged in the promotion of jazz music will embrace the opportunity to foster greater appreciation not only for the music but also for the contribution it can make to building more inclusive societies.

  • Jazz breaks down barriers and creates opportunities for mutual understanding and tolerance.
  • Jazz is a vector of freedom of expression.
  • Jazz reduces tensions between individuals, groups, and communities.
  • Jazz encourages artistic innovation, improvisation, new forms of expression, and inclusion of traditional music forms into new ones.
  • Jazz stimulates intercultural dialogue and empowers young people from marginalized societies.
