Solidaridad is North America’s original all-woman, diversity-affirming tango ensemble. Founded in 2021 by Aparna Halpé, it creates fair work, professional development, and performance opportunities for women tango musicians. Solidaridad is proud to present new music by women tango composers and arrangers from around the world, delivered in a historical performance style that keeps the old alive in the new. Following sold out performances in Toronto and Oregon, and headlining La Nuestra Tango Festival in NYC in 2022, the ensemble toured their debut album in Buenos Aires in 2023, where they performed at iconic tango venues, and at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes. Solidaridad’s debut album DISTANCIA (2023) is nominated for New/Emerging Artist and Best Instrumental Album for the 20th Anniversary edition of the Canadian Folk Music Awards 2025. Their album of virtual recordings of classic tangos Sos Lo Más will be released by Lulaworld Records in 2025, and their third album will be produced by the titan of tango production, Latin-Grammy winning producer, Ignacio Varchausky in 2026.

“Solidaridad’s ‘Toronto’ tangos are perfect!” (The Wholenote Magazine, Toronto).

“Packed with passion, oozing with originality, and played with perfection, DISTANCIA is an exciting listen from musicians unafraid of boundaries” (Songlines, UK).

“An album that has exceptional, extraordinary emotional musical power. Poems that touch your heart and soul, music that gives you borderless, universal pleasure. An album that even ranks above the ‘essential’ category, an album that is without hesitation placed in the short list of the best albums of the decade.”

Frankie Pfeiffer Editor-in-chief (Paris-Move, 2023)
