Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating the rich and diverse talents of contemporary Indigenous musicians. "Original People, Original Songs" showcases powerful performances of original material, reflecting the unique voices and stories of our artists from across the country in an immersive journey through music, storytelling, and cultural expression. Come, listen, and be inspired by the vibrant melodies and heartfelt lyrics that honor the past, present, and future of Indigenous communities with an extraordinary celebration of culture and creativity! Curated by Merilainen Music Inc.

The North Sound was created to share stories of Forrest's Blackfoot identity and traditions from Treaty 7 Territory. With a no-holds-barred approach to songwriting, Forrest’s lyrics span haunting metaphors from everyday experiences to personal realities.

The band’s lyrics and music balance modern production techniques with writing sensibilities inspired by great storytellers like Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris. The North Sound is signed to the independent Indigenous record label New Sun Music (Nashville, TN, USA), created by JUNO award winner Crystal Shawanda and her partner Dewayne Strobel.

The North Sound has had four singles reach number one on the Indigenous Music Countdown as well as Saskatchewan's MBC Radio. The band won Sask Music's Indigenous Artist of the Year award (2020) and has received three nominations from the Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA): Group of the YearRoots Album of the Year, and their song, Heavy Heart, up for Producer of the Year with Jesse Wieman.

296 Broadview is not yet a fully wheelchair accessible venue, with stairs between all levels. Our goal is to fix that, and we need your support to do so - please consider making a donation towards our goals to make HRL the best listening room in Toronto!
